Racing Appeals
Thoroughbred and harness horse racing and greyhound racing have their own appeal mechanisms in Victoria, where stewards or controlling bodies keep a close watch on the industry and award suspensions, disqualification and warning off in serious cases.
For example, the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board is the first avenue of appeal for those found guilty of a race day offence by the stewards in horse racing under Racing Victoria Ltd’s operations.
Racing Appeals Tribunal
The Racing Appeals Tribunal operates as a higher authority for appealing decisions which in some cases may involve suspensions and fines.
The Racing Appeals Tribunal, a statutory body set up under the Racing Act 1958, hears appeals against certain penalty decisions by:
- Racing Victoria Limited
- Harness Racing Victoria
- Greyhound Racing Victoria
You can find more information about the tribunal on the Racing Appeals Tribunal page.
