Compulsory Training for Gaming Venue Staff

The Gambling Regulation Act 2003 requires that all permanent gaming venue staff complete an accredited training course on responsible gambling within six months of commencing their employment.

The training will help staff to:

  • encourage a culture of responsible gambling
  • recognise and respond appropriately to problem gambling
  • identify when a person may be at risk
  • ensure that resources are available to players who may need to seek help.

Under the legislation, the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) is responsible for the approval of training providers and refresher courses on responsible gambling. The VCGR periodically review the course content to ensure it remains up to date.
