Loyalty Schemes
Measures to regulate loyalty schemes offered to gaming machine users came into effect on 1 July 2003 through the requirements of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003. These measures aim to give gamblers the opportunity to make more informed decisions about their gambling expenditure. They allow gamblers to review their gambling behaviour, which is the first step in identifying strategies for reducing harm caused by excessive gambling.
Activity statements
Members of loyalty schemes must receive an activity statement at least once a year, setting out:
- the time the loyalty scheme member spent playing gaming machines using the loyalty card each month
- the net win or loss for each month.
Other loyalty scheme requirements
Loyalty scheme providers must also:
- give members information on problem gambling
- allow members to set spend and time limits on their gaming machine play
- enable members to opt out of the loyalty scheme
- not allow self-excluded gamblers to use the loyalty scheme
- enable members to have ongoing access to information about their use of gaming machines.
