Responsible Gambling

The Office of Gaming and Racing provides policy and legislative advice to the Minister for Gaming and the Minister for Racing on strategies to support responsible gambling.

Responsible gambling is about minimising harm caused by problem gambling while accommodating those who gamble without harming themselves or others. A number of measures and initiatives have been introduced to foster responsible gambling by:

  • engaging the community and key stakeholders in decision making about gambling
  • encouraging gamblers to play safely without harming themselves or others
  • promoting good customer service practices by gambling providers.

Responsible Gambling Community Advocacy Project

This project facilitates the exchange of information and ideas between gambling stakeholders, the Minister for Gaming and the government.

The project activities include:

  • contributing to the Victorian Government’s review of electronic gaming machine, club keno, and wagering licences post-2012
  • participating in planning and policy development processes
  • advocating responsible gambling measures
  • consulting with stakeholders
  • developing materials for the promotion of responsible gambling
  • encouraging community involvement and ownership in responsible gambling issues.

The website for the Community Advocacy on Gambling (CAOG) Project provides information on the activities of the project, as well as being a source of information for important gambling-related activities across Victoria, including information such as gambling statistics, legislation, research and media stories.
