Personal Development and Life Skills

The Victorian prison system provides all prisoners with access to personal development and life skills programs, and professional help to resolve personal difficulties.

Each prison offers a range of personal development and life skills programs which are designed to meet the social, physical, psychological and spiritual needs of all prisoners.

While specific programs vary from prison to prison, such programs include relationship skills and parenting skills programs.

Participation by prisoners

While participation in these programs is not compulsory, it is viewed favorably by the Adult Parole Board when the prisoner is being considered for release from custody.

When implementing personal development and life skills programs, Prison Managers need to follow the Standard Guidelines for Corrections in Australia.
