In 2003 Corrections Victoria commissioned a review of drug and alchohol treament systems in Victorian prisons. A literature review found that substance use programs have a strong impact on reducing substance use and rates of reoffending, especially when a mix of treatment programs are provided.
This study builds on existing knowledge regarding the potential for transmission of blood borne viruses in Victorian prisons and documents prisoner experiences of transmission-risk situations and behaviour.
This general health status survey, of the Victorian prisoner population is the first of its kind and the report provides context for the survey and describes the main results.
