Getting there

From Melbourne, take the Calder Highway to Bendigo. After passing through Taradale you will start to see signs stating that the Maldon/Castlemaine turn off is coming up. Turn left off the Calder Highway and onto the Pyrenees Highway and follow the road through Elphinstone. You will then come to a small town called Chewton.

After going through Chewton you will see a 'Welcome to Castlemaine' sign on your left. Take the first left turn after the hotel into McGrath Street (Loddon Prison is clearly sign posted from McGrath Street). Then turn left into Hitchcock Street and follow the road over the bridge. You will see the prison signs. The visitors' car park is on the right.

Public Transport

Catch a weekend train from Southern Cross Station to Castlemaine. From Castlemaine Station you can catch buses leaving for Loddon Prison at 8:56am, 9:55am, 11:15am, or 12:20pm on Saturdays, and at 10:15am or 11:30am on Sundays. The buses also make return journeys from Loddon Prison to Castlemaine Station at 10:05am, 11:35am, 12:30pm, and 2:40pm on Saturdays, and at 11:40am and 2:20pm on Sundays. Travel on this bus is free upon presentation of a valid V/Line ticket.
