Justice Legislation
Policy development plays an important part in the Department of Justice's ongoing commitment to creating a safer and fairer Victoria. Updating and reviewing legislation is a never-ending and often difficult process, and a process where the community plays a very important role.
The department, through its various business units and bodies, regularly consults the community and businesses over possible changes to the law, ways to improve efficiency and organisation. The public, as well as businesses in both the public and private sectors, all have the chance to contribute to new legislation before it goes before Parliament through:
- policy papers
- policy reviews
- other consultative processes.
For more information on the Victorian legal system and how laws are made, see the Parliament of Victoria - How Laws are Made website. There is a complete list of the legislation administered by the Minister for Police & Emergency Services and the Minister for Corrections on the Justice Policy page.
