Human Rights - Who to Contact
Please note that the Department of Justice Human Rights Unit is unable to give legal advice. The role of the unit is to implement the Charter across the Victorian Government. This page contains information about which of the various agencies to contact with regard to human rights.
If you have a query regarding a breach of your human rights
Seek legal advice from your lawyer or contact a community legal centre. To find your local community legal centre, please contact the Federation of Community Legal Centres or visit their website at Community Law Online.
If you have a complaint about a public authority
The Ombudsman has the power to inquire into or investigate whether any administrative action is incompatible with any of the human rights set out in the Charter.
If you are interested in learning more about Human Rights or the Charter
The Victorian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission has public education brochures and activities the details of which are available on their website.
