Indigenous Issues
The department launched an initiative under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement to review access to legal representation for the Aboriginal community in Victoria, and produced a discussion paper.
In 2005, Victoria's first community-led Implementation Review of Recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody was tabled in Parliament.
Human Rights
On 1 June 2005, the Human Rights Consultation Committee released its Community Discussion Paper and called for submissions. The discussion paper outlined the main issues around developing a framework to better protect and promote human rights in Victoria.
