Victoria Chosen To Test New Technology
Following an approach from a German technology company, the Department of Justice is currently involved in a fixed speed camera test on the Maroondah Highway. The camera is located in Croydon North, between Croydon and Dorset Roads.
No infringements are currently being issued from this device; it is a new technology trial only.
The camera uses laser technology to measure speed, whereas other cameras in Victoria use radar.
Victoria was sought by the company because it is a world leader in speed verification technology.
There is no contract in place with this company to use their cameras in the future.
This camera was installed on 24 September 2008 and has been under test conditions since that time. There is a sign clearly indicating that this camera is a testing site, which was installed on 25 September 2008. This sign was vandalised on 15 November 2008, but was re-installed on 9 December 2008, and has been up since that time.
