Road Safety

The Victorian Government is continually striving to ensure that roads are safe for all Victorians. Speed and red-light cameras are among the most effective safety measures implemented on Victoria's roads.

The other key factors implemented to improve Victoria's road safety are compulsory seatbelts, random breath testing, improved roads, and highly visible public education campaigns. Drug driving laws introduced in 2000 and 2004, as well as hoon laws introduced in 2006 have also played a significant role in improving road safety.
