The testing and maintenance regime of speed cameras in Victoria is among the most stringent and robust in the world.
Legislative Requirements
In accordance with the Road Safety (General) Regulations 1999, the Victorian Government is required to test all speed measurement devices. Speed measurement devices are the primary component of a speed camera that enables it to detect and measure a vehicle's travelling speed.
A qualified and independent contractor authorised under the regulations assesses each device on a regular basis and provides a compliance certificate.
Compliance certificates can be used in court as proof that the device was tested and found to be operating correctly.
