Cost of Applying

Employees, self-employed

The application fee for a Working with Children (WWC) Check is $76.10. This fee is GST exempt and non-refundable. A WWC Check is valid for five years (unless revoked or surrendered prior).

Your application cannot be accepted without the application fee, which must be paid when you apply at a participating Australia Post outlet. The application fee can be paid by cash, EFTPOS or credit card.

If a WWC Check is required for your employment, it may be possible to claim the application fee as a tax deduction. You should consult the Australian Taxation Office in relation to your specific circumstances.

Volunteers

Volunteers do not need to pay the application fee as this cost is being met by the Victorian Government.

It is an offence for volunteers to use their ‘volunteer’ Assessment Notice and WWC Check card for ‘child-related work’ that is for profit or gain. If you are moving from a volunteer to a paid position, you will need to apply for an ‘employee’ WWC Check and pay the application fee when you lodge your application.

You are considered a volunteer even if the organisation reimburses you for expenses you incur.
