Phasing in the Check
The Working with Children (WWC) Check commenced in April 2006. It will be phased in between 2006 and 2011. Approximately 650,000 Victorians who work or volunteer in ‘child-related work’, as defined in section 9 of the Working with Children Act 2005, will need to apply for a WWC Check during this period.
Each year different types of ‘child-related work’ will be introduced. The date by which people who require a WWC Check need to apply depends on their type of ‘child-related work’.
If you are required to apply for a WWC Check and you commence paid employment or volunteer work after the due date for your type of ‘child-related work’, you will need to apply before you begin duties.
By 2011 all of the types of ‘child-related work’ will have been phased in. After this time, anyone undertaking ‘child-related work’ will need to have applied for a WWC Check before beginning that work.
