New Licence Categories
The Victorian Government introduced new legislation to Parliament on 12 August 2009, proposing changes to the current liquor licence categories to create better groupings of licences and more clearly differentiating the types of activities undertaken.
Three new licence categories has been created:
- a new late night licence category for licences that authorise the supply of liquor after 1am
- a new restaurant and cafe licence category for businesses whose predominant activity at all times is the preparation and serving of meals for consumption on the premises
- a new major events licence category for large events that attract a high number of patrons and have greater potential safety risk and amenity impacts.
In addition, the existing limited licence has been divided into two sub-categories:
- a temporary limited licence for smaller one-off events or events over a limited period
- a renewable limited licence for supply of liquor on an ongoing basis, but limited in scale and scope.
