Statistics
Fewer new liquor licences are being granted in Victoria while enforcement in licensed premises is increasing.
Most licences granted in Victoria are “on-premises” licences, which cover restaurants, cafes, nightclubs and bars (sixty per cent of on-premises licences are restaurants).
Licences that cover pubs, hotels and taverns are categorised as “general” licences.
In recent years the proportion of on-premises licences has been increasing while the proportion of general licences is decreasing.
The enforcement of liquor laws to help prevent alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour in and around licensed premises is strengthening with a significant increase in infringements issued to licensees.
