Alcohol and the Community
Responsible Alcohol Victoria and the Director of Liquor Licensing, work collaboratively to meet the objectives of the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998, which acknowledge both the positive and potentially harmful aspects of liquor in the community.
Victoria’s diverse range of licensed venues not only help to make Victoria a vibrant and interesting place to live but also a popular tourist destination for visitors, creating many flow-on opportunities. However, irresponsible drinking can contribute to serious social and personal ills afflicting many Victorians.
The presence of a licensed premises can attract more visitors to the surrounding area, sometimes resulting in increased noise and other amenity issues. Responsible Alcohol Victoria aims to minimise the potential negative impacts of alcohol misuse on individuals and the broader community.
