The department prepared a report in June 2015 – Jury Directions: A Jury-Centric Approach – which sets out the department's recommendations in relation to the reform of jury directions, which the Jury Directions Amendment Acts 2015 reflects.
This builds on the recommendations contained in Jury Directions: A New Approach, which sets out the changes brought in by the Jury Directions Act 2013.
The department's review of jury directions was conducted with the assistance of an expert Advisory Group, which includes high-level representatives from Victoria's courts, Office of Public Prosecutions, Victoria Legal Aid, the Victorian Bar, the Judicial College of Victoria and two academics.
