The Department of Justice has conducted an extensive review of sexual offences in Victoria. In October 2013, it released a consultation paper which identified and analysed the main problems with sexual offence laws.

The consultation paper presented proposals for improving the clarity and effectiveness of these laws, and asked questions about how best to deal with certain aspects of the law.

See below for copies of the consultation paper, a summary paper which focused on the law of rape and a short summary of the options for reform.

The submissions for the review have now closed.

Please note that this review does not cover issues faced by victims of crime and witnesses. If you need help or support in relation to sexual assault, contact the Victims of Crime Helpline on 1800 819 817 or Centres against Sexual Assault on 1800 806 292.
