Specific matters considered

Establishment of an LGBTIQ+ Legal Service in the Victorian Pride Centre

An update was provided to members on the outcome of the LGBTIQ+ legal service grant process, noting that the Attorney-General had announced the successful applicant was Fitzroy Legal Service, in partnership with Queerspace.

Members discussed the criteria used in the grant process and proposed further work to strengthen the definition of “community-led” to inform the implementation of actions contained within Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ Strategy 2022-2032 (External link)

Updates from Youth Justice on the Youth Justice Strategic Plan 2020-2030 – Supporting LGBTIQ+ children and young people

Representatives from Department of Justice and Community Safety presented on the implementation of the Youth Justice Strategic Plan 2020-2030, including the establishment of an LGBTIQ+ advisory group.

Follow-up meeting

Technical issues impacted the second half of the meeting, and as such a follow-up meeting will be scheduled with members to cover off on agenda items that were missed.

Next meeting

The next formal meeting of the LGBTIQ+ Justice Working Group will be on 20 June 2023.
