Update on legislative reforms
The Department of Justice and Community Safety provided updates on the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 reform. Discussion focussed on Government’s commitment as well as community engagement and support that will be needed to progress the reform.
Briefing on the Royal Commission into Mental Health
The Department of Justice and Community Safety provided an overview of the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Mental Health. Discussion centred on the recommendations and components of the Royal Commission that have direct relevance to LGBTIQ individuals. A more detailed exploration of the findings of the Royal Commission and its impact on LGBTIQ individuals will follow.
LGBTIQ+ Whole of Victorian Government Strategy
Rachel Cecilio, Acting Director, Equality, Department of Families, Fairness and Housing provided an update on the development of the LGBTIQ+ Strategy following a series of workshops with members of the LGBTIQ+ Taskforce and Working Groups. It was noted that the final strategy will be released in late 2021, following government endorsement.
Update on the Health and Human Service Intersex Working Group
Ro Allen, Commissioner for LGBTIQ+ Communities, provided an update on the Health and Human Service Intersex Working Group.The Working Grouphas recently focused on developing afuture directions paper, informing online resources provided by Intersex Human Rights Australia and providing advice on the proposed Oversight Panel.
Reflection of work priorities for 2021
Members were presented with an updated Work Plan, based on the previous discussion regarding priorities for 2021. A series of amendments to the Work Plan were suggested to clarify key priority areas and desired outcomes.

The LGBTIQ Justice Working Group will next meet on 26 July 2021.
